On Sunday May 22nd 2011 the grounds of ancient Gordon Castle once again heave-hoed, piped and danced to the sights and sounds of an international Highland Games. It had been a long time coming. Not since the 1930s had the Castle witnessed the Games as an annual event. The long period of silence had only been broken once, in 1976, when the Duke and Duchess celebrated the bicentenary of Fochabers with a special one-off Games.
We were therefore delighted to end this thirty year hiatus in 2011 with the inaugural Gordon Castle Highland Games and Country Fair. Setting in store what has become a feature of the new Gordon Castle Games, the day witnesses a mixture of traditional heavy and light events and a host of new and innovative entertainments including a wide range of trade stands selling both locally and nationally sourced goods. The Games were a great success and around 4,000 visitors joined us for what proved to be a marvellous day out for all.
